The Issues
Constitutional Rights- I am committed to the preservation of our rights under the Tennessee State and U.S. Constitutions. I will fight to keep my fellow citizens aware of those who are seeking to undermine our freedoms. We must, as concerned citizens and patriots, continue to alert those within our sphere of influence of the need to be vigilant. “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”
The Fairness Doctrine- There are those who would have us believe that government will be able to regulate speech content on the airwaves in an unbiased manner. We have far to many obvious examples that prove otherwise. Such as the lack of character demonstrated by many of our past and current representatives. Given the propensity of some to maintain power and position at any cost we cannot afford to allow this doctrine to be re-instituted. This is nothing more than a failed attempt to shut the mouths of those who are seeking to keep the citizenry informed to the dubious ways of some in our government. Stand with me against this insidious attack.
The Right to Bear Arms- From my perspective many of our representatives both at the local as well as federal levels are derelict in their duties. They are failing to protect the average citizen by placing individuals as judges on our courts who will not hold murders and rapists accountable. This is an obvious fact that many of our representatives seem to ignore as they deny the citizenry the right of self defense. Law enforcement officers would tell you they are most always called to the scene after the crime. How then are we expected to protect ourselves and our families in a time when our government has failed us. We can change this, we the people are the government.
Military- I strongly support our military and believe it is vital to our troops’ morale for all Americans to show a united front in our support of their service. While it would be nice to believe that we can please our enemies simply by placating them history tells us unless we share the same values agreement will never be reached. Therefore, it is necessary that we maintain a strong defense. I am committed to honor and support our Tennessee military personnel both active and retired.
Marriage- God is the author of marriage; He ordained it. It is one of the primary cornerstones of our civilization. I believe it is an affront to our Creator and His grand design to attempt to redefine what constitutes marriage. One man, one woman.
Jobs- Free enterprise is the primary metal that helped to build the American Economic System into the powerhouse that it is today. It is a fundamental principle that sets us apart from many other nations. In order to ensure the preservation of our economic system, we must continue to demonstrate through education and accurate communication the integral role free enterprise has and must continue to play in the creation of jobs for Tennesseans.
We must also be careful to elect government representatives who defer to the private sector over creation of bigger government. The farming community provides potential opportunity for the creation of food related industries in our district. I intend to work together with the free enterprise system in Tennessee to develop emerging industries spawned from the need for energy independence and to help develop greater security measures for our state and our nation.
We are faced with many economic challenges here in the 81st District and across the state. With these challenges come greater opportunities for growth. I will seek to bring industry which offers competitive wages to our district.
Historically government has been instrumental in the development of new technologies from which private sector business has created many new avenues of employment. Although this has its place, we must not lose sight of the fact that some have used the power of government to establish programs that only serve to handicap those who become dependent on those programs. We have witnessed for several decades the threatened loss of entitlement programs to frighten voters into supporting certain parties come election time. Politicians have learned the art of buying votes by making empty promises to the uninformed.
Our infrastructure has been built to offer support to those who are unable to work. A fundamental principle that sets our state and country apart is our willingness to help those who cannot help themselves. This is why it is so important to promote faith, family, and community--all of which have been under assault--which serve as the ultimate safety net. When we defer to government to meet these needs nine out of ten are lost in a bureaucratic nightmare. Regardless of the need they are best met by those who truly care.
